Social Security Benefits COLA 2023

The year 2023 could carry the greatest increment to Social Security benefits in forty years, with rising costs powering estimates of an almost twofold digit cost of living change (COLA) for 2023.

The projected cost-of-living adjustment, or COLA, for 2023 is 9.6%, based on the Senior Citizens League.

This projected COLA will raise the average retiree benefit of $1,656 by $158.98

According to SSA, as of July 2022 all retirees benefit average $1625

retired workers benefit average $1671

benefit average for spouses of retired: $834;

children of retired gets benefit average $785

The average of all paid benefits, retirees, survivors, disability is around $1,545.

A COLA increases a person's Social Security retirement benefit by approximately the product of the COLA and the benefit amount.

The maximum benefit is dependent upon the age you retire.

COLAs for the past 10 years had found the middle value of 1.7 per cent, going from zero in 2015 to 3.6 per cent in 2011.

 Assuming there is no expansion, there's no COLA — that occurred in 2009, 2010 and 2015. The greatest change was 14.3 per cent in 1980.

The 2022 COLA of 5.9 per cent expanded the normal retirement benefit by $92 every month. In 2021, instalments became by a normal of $20 a month on the rear of a 1.3 per cent change.

Nobody pays taxes on more than 85% percent of their Social Security benefits.

Some people who get Social Security should pay federal income taxes on their benefits.

So, The genuine COLA will rely upon changes in shopper costs through the finish of September. A 9 per cent COLA would help the typical Social Security retirement benefit by about $150 a month in 2023.
